After impasse and crack among members, the Evangelical Bench of the National Congress elected this Tuesday (25) the deputy GILBERTO NASCIMENTO (PSD-SP) As a new president for the 2025-2026 biennium. He received 117 votes.

Also played in the command of the group OToni Otoni de Paula (MDB-RJ), who received 61 votes. Deputy Greyce Elias (Avante-MG) was also in the election, but decided to leave the candidacy to support Nascimento.

The choice of the group coordinator by election is unprecedented. This year, the parliamentary front broke the tradition of choice for consensus after the polarization between the postulants to the position. The bench is made up of 219 deputies and 26 senators, but only 178 congressmen participated in the vote.

Birth possession as president of the bench is scheduled for Wednesday (26), during the traditional Santa Supper promoted weekly by the parliamentary front.

Dispute

Gilberto Nascimento was the candidate supported by the bench pocket wing. He also had the sympathy of the PL leader and former president of the parliamentary front, Sostenes Cavalcante (RJ).

Otoni de Paula was seen by the deputies of the bench as a name closer to President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT).

Despite denying he was aligned with the Lula administration, Otoni has already made the agent and promised to build a dialogue with the executive if he was elected.
