Algarve keeps two Michelin stars and reinforces presence in the prestigious guide

Marlene restaurants in Lisbon and Blind in Porto won the first Michelin star, making the chefs Marlene Vieira and Rita Magro the first women to receive this distinction in the second edition of the exclusively national gala.

“The dream commands life and this is a dream come true,” said Marlene Vieira, when, visibly nervous, thanked the distinction attributed to the Marlene restaurant in Lisbon.

Rita Magro, along with ‘Chef’ Vítor Matos, saw the restaurant Blind in Porto also win a Michelin star.

“It was a long way. It was hard, suffered, but finally we arrived, ”said the ‘chef’, noting that this award is the result of” a team that chooses every day to do its best. “

The first Portuguese ‘chef’ to receive a Michelin star was Maria Alice Marto in 1993 with the restaurant Aunt Alice in Fatima, which makes the two chef now distinguished the first women to receive this distinction in the last 30 years.

Alongside Marlene and Blind restaurants, the Arkhe (João Ricardo Alves, Lisbon), Grenache (Philippe Gelfi, Lisbon), hidden (Hugo Rocha and Vítor Matos, Vila do Conde), Palatial (Rui Filipe, Braga), Vine (Philippe), Vine. Jonathan Seiller and Henrique Sá Pessoa, Vila Nova de Gaia) and Yoso (Habner Gomes, Lisbon) also received a Michelin star on Tuesday.

In total, this year’s guide counts 38 restaurants with a star, which distinguishes a ‘high -level kitchen, pays to stop’, having 100 ways (Lisbon, chef Ljubomir Stanisic) lost to the star, according to the organization.

The eight restaurants previously distinguished with two Michelin stars maintain the distinction this year, the publication revealed. Integrate this category (‘Excellent Kitchen, Worth the Deviation’) The restaurants Vila Joya (Dieter Koschina, Albufeira), Il Gallo D’Oro (Benoît Sinthon, Funchal), Boa Nova Tea House (Rui Paula, Leça da Palmeira), Belcanto (José Avillez, Lisbon), Alma (Henrique Sá Pessoa, Lisbon), Ocean (Hans Neuner, Porches), Antiqvvm (Vítor Matos, Porto) and The Yeatman (Ricardo Costa, Vila Nova de Gaia).

The country remains without a maximum rating of three stars (“a unique kitchen, justifies the trip”).

At the ceremony, five new Bib Gourmand restaurants were announced (relative to a good quality/price ratio, in the order of 45 euros): scoundrel (João Rodrigues and Lívia Orofino, Lisbon), contradiction (oscar frosts, Bragança), Oma (Luis Moreira , Porto), Pygmy (Miguel Azevedo Peres, Lisbon) and Terruja (Diogo Caetano, Alvados). Portugal now counts 37 restaurants with this distinction.

The ‘Young Chef’ Award was awarded to José Diogo Costa (William, a star, Funchal). The ‘room’ award (which distinguishes the service) was delivered to Nelson Marreiros (Ocean, two stars, porches), while the ‘sommelier’ award was Marco Pinto (Fifty Seconds, a star, Lisbon).

Portugal also has another restaurant with ‘Estrela Verde’ (which distinguishes sustainable gastronomy): Charm (José Avillez, a star, Lisbon) – and now totals six in this category.

There are also 35 more recommended establishments in, 12 of the Porto and North region, 10 of the Centro and Lisbon region, and 13 of the regions of Alentejo, Algarve and wood.
