Former President of the Republic Jair Bolsonaro (PL) suggested on Tuesday, 25, the name of the former Minister of Economics Paulo Guedes to run a place in the Federal Senate by Minas Gerais.
“I would like Paulo Guedes to accept being a senator by Minas Gerais. We are trying. It’s a huge name for the Senate, ”Bolsonaro said during an interview with journalist Leo Dias.
In next year’s election, voters will choose two names for the Senate (by state), which expands the chance of election. Carioca, Guedes is related to Minas Gerais. He graduated in Economics from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), in Belo Horizonte.
In mining territory, however, there is the name of federal deputy Nikolas Ferreira (PL), who has already stated the intention to compete for one of the vacancies for the Senate in case of constitutional change, which is being processed in the National Congress.
For the current text of the Federal Constitution of 1988, you can run for a place to the Senate every Brazilian with at least 35 years. Nikolas will have 30 years in the 2026 dispute. But there is a proposal to amend the Constitution (PEC) that aims to reduce the minimum age to 30 years, which would benefit Nikolas.
