Just 5 days to go to the Oscar 2025 ceremony, director Walter Salles’s film is successful in American theaters

Only 5 days remaining for the Oscar 2025 ceremony the movie “I’m Still Here”, by Brazilian director Walter Salles, reached its largest audience in the theaters of the United States. In his sixth week on the US the work is shown in 762 theaters.

According to the Deadline platform, the film grew in 293 movie theaters from 21 to 23 February, surpassing the 702 rooms in the US country. Thus, the total box office revenue reached US $ 4.2 million (about R $ 24 million in the current price), according to the Box Office IMDBPro platform.

The success of Walter Salles’s work follows in other countries such as France and Portugal. In France, the film was premiered on January 15, 2025 and was screened in 475 movie theaters. Already in Portugal, “I’m still here” reached the most watched film post in the country for 4 weeks in a row, January 16 to February 9.

Oscar 2025

The work “I’m still here” received 3 nominations to Oscar 2025 in the categories of Best Actress (Fernanda Torres), Best Movie and Best International Film. This is the first time a Brazilian film is nominated for the main category of the Oscar.

The actress, who plays Eunice Paiva, wife of Deputy Rubens Paiva, repeats her mother’s feat also actress Fernanda Montenegro when she was nominated for the Oscar for Best Actress in 1999 for her performance in “Central do Brasil” (also directed by Walter Salles ).

Fernanda Torres will compete with other major actresses Hollywood such as Demi Moore (“the substance”), Karla Sofa Gasco (Emilia Pérez), among others.
