Rubio dismissed the planned meeting, which was perceived as a diplomatic insult to the EU.
The head of the European Union’s diplomacy Kaja Kallas will not meet the US Minister of Foreign Affairs Marc Rubio during the current visit to Washington. The reason is “problems with planning deadlines”, her office said on Wednesday. Informed about Reuters and DPA, TASR writes.
Kallas said on Monday that she would meet Rubio on the US metropolis on 26 and February 27 and talk to him about US efforts to end Russia’s war against Ukraine.
Kallas spokesman, according to DPA, confirmed that Rubio had dismissed a planned meeting on Wednesday, which the German news agency described as “another diplomatic insult” by the EU by the US government. The US Department of Foreign Affairs has not yet commented on the matters.
In Brussels, they consider it a possible explanation that the EU recently did not support the US Draft Resolution on the war in Ukraine, which was helpful to Moscow, is approaching DPA.
Kallas criticized the plans of the US President
Kallas previously described the plans of the US President Donald Trump to end the war in Ukraine as a “dirty agreement”. For example, she criticized that Ukraine, according to Washington, should give up the ambitions to join NATO and accept that part of its territory would remain permanently under Russia’s control.
According to the spokesman, the EU High Representative for foreign affairs and security policy, despite renunciation of the meeting with Rubio, will remain in Washington until Thursday. He has meetings with the Congressmen and employees of the EU delegation on the program.
