The French authorities arrested two people after throwing improvised explosive mechanisms at the Russian consulate in the southern city of Marseilles. The attack took place on the third anniversary of its invasion of Ukraine on Monday and there were no injuries.
According to police, three plastic bottles of soft drinks were thrown into the gardens of the consulate and only two exploded. Moscow spoke of a “terrorist attack”, while Paris condemned “any violation of the security of the diplomatic facilities”.
The Marseille Public Prosecutor’s Office said the detainees were adults, but did not give details. The regional newspaper La Provence said they were identified during a protest in favor of Ukraine on Monday night.
