Israeli parliament illuminates orange in memory of Bibas

The Knesset, the Israeli Parliament, as well as the residence of the president of Israel, Isaac Herzog, have enlightened orange in memory of Shiri Bibas and their two children, Ariel and Kfir, both redheads, who died in captivity after being kidnapped by Hamas and that will be buried this Thursday next to the border with Gaza.

“Today, after 509 days, Shiri and his children are finally buried with dignity in Israel,” said Herzog’s office in a statement. First thing in the morning, hundreds of Israelíes already congregated in the streets of the center of the country to follow the funeral march that the Bodies of Shiri will take, which was 32 years old when Hamas attacked, on October 7, 2023; Ariel, who had 4; and Kfir, just nine months old when the attack happened, to its burial place.

Part of the funeral of Shiri, of Argentine and Peruvian descent, and the children will be broadcast live from 11.30 local time (10.30 Spanish peninsular time). Shiri’s husband and children’s father, Yardén Bibas, was released alive on February 1, in the fourth exchange of Israeli hostages by Palestinian prisoners in prisons of Israel del Alto El Fuego in Gaza.

After the delivery, by Hamas, of the bodies of the two children, last Thursday, Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari said that the Gazati militiamen killed Ariel and Kfir “with their own hands”, according to the report Forensa prepared by Israel, which has not been made public. Shiri’s body was delivered on Friday. Hamas, however, already said in November 2023 that both minors and their mother had died in an Israeli air attack against the Gaza Strip, an affirmation of which it has not presented evidence. (EFE)
