Actor Gene Hackman and wife are found dead at home

There is no immediate evidence of a crime

American actor Gene Hackman, 95, winner of two Oscar statuettes in a six -decades career, and his wife, pianist Betsy Arakawa, 64, were found dead at home, US press said.

The couple’s dog was also found dead in the residence.

Santa Fe County Sheriff (New Mexico), Adan Mendoza, said the couple was found dead on Wednesday (27) and that there is no immediate indication of a crime.

“There is no suspicion of crime as a factor in these deaths at this time, however, the exact cause of death has not yet been determined. This is an active and ongoing investigation by the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s office, ”he said.

Hackman, a former naval luggier known for his hoarse voice, played in over 80 films, as well as working on television and theater during a long career that began in the early 1960s.

He received the first Oscar nomination for his prominent role as the brother of Banks thief Clyde Barrow in “Bonnie and Clyde” from 1967. He was also nominated as best supporting actor in 1971 for “never loved you, never loved you.”

It was with the role as Popeye Doyle, the sloppy detective New York chasing international traffickers in “Operation France” by director William Friedkin, who secured his star and an Oscar for best actor.

He also won an Oscar for best supporting actor in 1993 as a cruel sheriff in Clint Eastwood’s “The Unforgivable”, and was nominated for Oscar for his role as FBI agent in the 1988 historical drama “Mississippi on fire.”

He retired at age 70, saying that the roles they offered to him were very his grandfather. His last substantial role was in the 2004 comedy “Welcome to Mooseport.”

Living on the outskirts of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Hackman was married twice and had three children-Christopher, Elizabeth Jean and Leslie Anne, with his late ex-wife, Faye Maltese, who died in 2017. He married Arakawa in 1991.
