João Fonseca, just 18 years old, is the 78th place in the ATP ranking. It comes from elimination in the first round of the ATP 500 Rio Open, when it lost to French Alexandre Muller by 2 sets to 0, with partials from 1-6 and 6-7.

João Fonseca: History in Tennis
João Fonseca was born on August 21, 2006, in Rio de Janeiro (RJ). His career gained notoriety in 2023, when he won the youth title of simple at US Open, becoming the first Brazilian to reach this feat.
In December 2023, Fonseca was the first Brazilian youth world champion, for ending the season as number 1 in the junior ranking.
In early 2024, at the age of 17, Fonseca reached the semifinals of Challenger de Buenos Aires, demonstrating their potential in professional tournaments. In February, he participated in the Open River, where, after receiving a Wildcard, he obtained his first ATP level victory by defeating the seventh head of key Arthur Fils in direct sets. With this victory, he became the first player born in 2006 to win a match on the ATP circuit. He then surpassed Cristian Garin, reaching the quarterfinals of the tournament.
In March 2024, Fonseca arrived at his first Challenger final in Paraguay, consolidating his position among professionals. In April, he received a Wildcard for the Masters 1000 in Madrid, where he beat American Alex Michelsen, recording his first victory at this level of competition.

In late November 2024, Fonseca qualified for the Next Generation ATP Finals, being unbeaten tournament champion, equating the feat of big names in tennis such as Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
In January this year, he played in the Challenger final of Canberra, Australia, and won the title by hitting the US Ethan Quinn in the final, by 2 sets to 0.
Shortly after winning Canberra’s Challenger, Fonseca entered the Australian Open qualifying, where he won three games easily, in two applying “tires” (6 x 0) to opponents. He was drawn to play against Russian Andrey Rublev, Top 10 World, in the first round of the main key.
