The Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) in São Paulo will offer free legal assistance to Women Victims of Harassment during the carnival in the state capital.
OAB-SP launches the action “OAB for them at Carnival” on Friday night (28). In all, 52 Volunteer Lawyers They will be online online for 24 hours at various parts of the state.
“This initiative arose precisely due to Increased cases of crimes against women in carnivalsuch as harassment, sexual harassment, rape and domestic violence. We will offer the first guidelines to the victims, indicating where to report and which evidence they should collect, ”says Maíra Recchia, chairman of the OAB-SP Women’s Lawyers Commission.
The action will be focused on victims of the city of São Paulobut the intention of the commission is to expand service to other places at the 2026 Carnival.
The committee chairman stresses that attending harassment victims at Carnival will be totally confidentialwith the exclusive purpose of, at first, supporting women.
16 million in the capital
Carnival must tell 16 million people in the street blocks of the state capital in 2025. The information was released by the city on February 20.
Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB) stressed that this is a record number, in addition to informing that among them will be 1.5 million tourists, distributed in 601 blocks of street, generating about R $ 3.4 billion in the city’s economy, the largest financial return in the history of the capital, beyond the generation of 50 thousand jobs.
During the blocks, the city will distribute 2.2 million glasses of water in 158 tents. In partnership with Sabesp, there will be two trucks with tap and five drinking fountains.
The City Hall also has a partnership with the Brazilian Beverage Association (Abrabe) for water distribution.
