Vienna media is writing about the closing of the oldest restaurant in the city. According to them, they lose a symbolic place on the map of the Old Town.
Gösser Bierklinik, located at Steindlgasse, in the very center of Vienna, officially functioned as an inn since 1566. It is possible, however, that it existed even earlier, because the first mention of the inn appears in 1406. This means that it survived many key and difficult moments – the Turkish siege, Vienna relief and occupation during World War II. In 1945, even a tenement house was bombed, in which there was a restaurant, but despite the damage – it was rebuilt and still functioned.
Among the inhabitants of Vienna Gösser Bierklinik, they also referred to as Zum Steindl, he was known as a inn with historical rooms. Guests sat at the wooden tables, a They were served dishes typical of traditional Austrian cuisine. The menu could not be missing stew, beef soup, spicy black pudding and regional beer. From 1988, it was led by a Hieronymus Kos, who in 2000 refreshed the interior, restoring the former appearance of the inn.
Unfortunately, after less than 500 years, the Gösser Bierklinik inn has been closed permanently. The owner of the inn, already recognized as a monument today, did not give the media the reasons for its closure. In Austria, however, it is speculated that the reason was the high costs of maintaining the premises. In recent years, in the restaurant you have noticed problems with the employment of kitchen and waiters. It is ultimately recognized that The restaurant was overcome by inflation and staff shortages.
