United States announces a plan of $ 1 billion against avian flu

Planning includes audits and support for farmers to contain viruses that has already killed 166 million chicken

The (US Department of Agriculture), on Wednesday (26.FEV.2025), an investment plan of US $ 1 billion to combat aviary flu. The outbreak has affected the American poultry industry since 2022, causing the death of 166 million chickens and impacting egg prices globally.

The plan aims to reduce the spread of the virus, which also infected about 70 people and resulted in a death. Since early 2024, the virus has affected nearly 1,000 dairy cows in the US.

In January, the price of eggs in the United States reached $ 4.95 per dozen, almost double the previous year. USDA secretary Brooke Rollins detailed the plan, which includes free biosecurity audits and increases in payments to farmers who need to sacrifice chickens. Part of the resources will be intended for increasing egg imports to reduce consumer prices. Turkey has committed to export 15,000 tons of eggs to the US until July.

The plan also projects investments in vaccines and treatments for poultry herds. Rollins said he hoped the strategy restore egg market stability over the next 3 to the s6 months. The initiative received support from US egg producers, a US egg farmers’ cooperative, and was taken after former President Donald Trump demanding measures to contain the crisis.
