Vice President and Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB) is expected to meet with United States Secretary Howard Lutnick to discuss the tariffs recently imposed by the US country.
The meeting should take place this Friday (28), virtually, and was scheduled at the request of Alckmin. The information was given by the newspaper O Globo and confirmed by CNN.
In recent weeks, US President Donald Trump has announced a series of import rates that reach Brazilian products. Among them, steel and aluminum, with an increase of 25% and a memorandum of “reciprocity” with product rates from other countries.
Recently, Alckmin said there is room to negotiate the taxation to steel and aluminum.
“The taxation is natural, foreign trade is always a ‘take it from here’. […] But we will look for the US government and negotiate, work. Again [primeiro mandato de Trump] There was already that, then a quota was established for steel. So there is room to negotiate, ”said Alckmin.
The measure brought impacts to Brazil, as the country is the second largest exporter of steel to the US.
