Most cases detected from the Cikungunya virus in the community space involved people who had traveled out of the European Union countries
The European Commission has authorized a vaccine against the Chikungunya virus for adults and young people over 12, as it increased the presence of the mosquito that conveys it.
In a statement, the community executive announced that the vaccine was authorized because climate change “led to an increase in the presence of mosquitoes that transmit serious illness,” although not endemic in the European Union countries.
Most cases detected from the Cikungunya virus in the community space involved people who had traveled out of the European Union countries.
Last year, the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control detected 620,000 cases of Chikungunya virus contagion and 213 people died worldwide.
Chikungunya virus infection can cause fever, intense pain and joint edema, muscle pain, red spots on the body and itching, especially in the palms and foot plants, according to the information consulted by Lusa on the official website of the Brazilian Ministry of Health.
