The targets of the deputies are defenders Fernanda Penteado Balera, Gabriela Galetti Pimenta and Surraily Fernandes Youssef, who belong to the Specialized Center for Citizenship and Human Rights of the Public Defender’s Office of the State of São Paulo.
Last week, they sent a letter to the City Hall recommending that Smart Sampa will not be used during Carnival. The reason is that facial identification technology for identifying criminals has flaws and can harm groups such as blacks, women and transgender people.
This Thursday (27), Carla Morando filed a request to the Public Security Commission of the Legislative Assembly requesting the convening of the three defenders.
According to the request, “the aforementioned public defenders incur any extrapolation of their constitutionally foreseen competences, since they aim to impose, improperly, the implementation of public security policies and guarantee of public order, whose competence is attributed to the Chief Executive.”
In addition, the deputy and her parliamentarians have sent identical representations to the General Corregedoria of the São Paulo Public Defender’s Office asking for the installation of administrative procedure, with an injunction, of the three defenders.

The deputy says that the initiative was autonomous of state deputies and did not comply with requests from the mayor.
