Social movements and NGOs issued a note supporting questions made by the State Public Defender’s Office against Smart Sampa, program of the City Hall of Cameras.

“The program represents the absence of capacity of the municipality of São Paulo to properly combat local violence,” says the note in support of the Defender’s Office, signed by 44 entities, including Rede Liberdade, Conectas, Institute of Black Reference Peregum, Public Policy and Internet Laboratory (Lapin), Idec (Institute of Consumer Protection), Article 19 and Transparency Brazil. According to the note, “the implementation of a public policy that vulnerates already marginalized groups distorts the constitutional principles of guaranteeing human dignity and perpetuates racist logic.”
Entities also condemn what they see as an offensive of Nunes Management against the Defender, which has functional autonomy.
“Construction of prerogatives and functional independence is an achievement of the career of public defenders and all civil society,” says the text.
Deputy Paulo Fiorilo, leader of the PT/PCdoB/PV Federation at Alesp, expressed, in office, his concern with the request of Mrs Carla living so that the Defender’s Corregedoria Open administrative procedure against defenders.

Management Nunes says Smart Sampa is the largest Latin American camera monitoring program and has a high level of precision, with algorithms that only emit alerts when there is 90% similarity.
The city also stated that it took steps to ensure the protection of data from the program. “The prisometer is another resource in search of expanding the dissemination and transparency of technology and results achieved by Smart Sampa, which works with the crossing of official data from the State Public Security Secretariat and the Municipal Secretariat of Human Rights and Citizenship.”
