Francisco has undergone several health problems in the last two years. He is prone to pulmonary infections because he developed pleurisia as a young man and had part of a removed lung.
Double pneumonia is a severe infection of both lungs that can ignite and heal, making breathing difficult. The Vatican said he suffered a “prolonged respiratory crisis similar to asthma” on Saturday, but there were no repetitions.
