Francisco was admitted to the Gemelli Hospital of Rome on February 14 with what was originally described as a bronchitis and later proved to have evolved to something more serious.

Francisco has undergone several health problems in the last two years. He is prone to pulmonary infections because he developed pleurisia as a young man and had part of a removed lung.
Double pneumonia is a severe infection of both lungs that can ignite and heal, making breathing difficult. The Vatican said he suffered a “prolonged respiratory crisis similar to asthma” on Saturday, but there were no repetitions.
