Sweet potatoes is one of Aljezur’s iconic products, integrating the cultural and economic identity of the county. Since 1998, the Aljezur Sweet Potato Producers Association has played an essential role in valuing this product, and the Protected Geographic Indication (IGP), officially recognized in 2009. Thanks to this distinction from the European Union, the Aljezur Sweet Potato has been gaining recognition with consumers and consolidating presence in various markets.

The articulation between the support of the PDR 2020, the Aljezur Sweet Potato Producers Association and IGP certification has been fundamental for the valorization of the product and the territory. This type of synergies contributes significantly to the sustainable development of rural areas, encouraging generational renewal in agriculture, promoting equal opportunities and strengthening the local economy.
