This Friday (28), while the public and samba schools are organized to enter the Anhembi sambadrome, in São Paulo, another group-approximately 60 people-performs an evangelism in the place.
This movement is interdenominational and paraccadial, that is: there is no church sign commanding the action.
“Christ did not come to establish walls, came to establish bridges. We were called to serve the city, outside the four walls of the Church, and walked to cooperate with each other,” says Pastor Diego Deolindo, 34. He leads the platform that, evangelistic movements and social institutions that work in the state capital.
“One of the most precious things of evangelism actions is that you feel used by God, to bring hope, love and joy to people,” says Deolindo.
In this Friday’s evangelism, about 10 different institutions will be on the streets. The focus of the group is not only in revelers, but in those who work on the streets and people passing through the region.
They offer prayers, deliver water bottles and biblical words. If there is opening, they get the person’s contact to maintain dialogue in the future.
“We pray that God will reach their hearts, that God will generate and convince the people of sin, righteousness, and judgment through the Holy Spirit of God.”
For those who ask why believers evangelize on the streets, the pastor explains that there is an order left by Jesus, known as the great commission, where it is written, “And said unto them, Go all over the world, preach the gospel to every creature.”
Also according to the pastor, the group receives many reports of cures, relief of anxiety, and abandonment of addictions after the outdoor actions.
Prayer and fasts are essential for those who want to work on the streets, he explains. In addition, behind the scenes, there are always meetings to align participants’ hearts and receive “coverage” [quando irmãos da igreja intercedem pelas pessoas que atuam no campo].
According to Deolindo, from the instruments taken to the played songs or the pieces that will be staged are directed by God. “Everything has a purpose.”
The group’s next action takes place on Paulista Avenue this Saturday (1st), from 19h. But it is not only in large centers or places that these groups act.
There are actions in peripheries, squares, bus terminals, parks or free markets, with food distribution and service to the most needy.
“The religion that pleases God is to take care of orphans and widows,” explains Deolindo, citing another biblical passage.
“The purpose is not to impose anything to anyone or to present my theological position, but to announce the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which is the power for salvation,” he concludes.
