The management of the BE retreated in the proposal that it was foreseen to include in the statutes that the militants should respect the party’s “good name”, considering “undesirable any prior controversy” to the appreciation of the statutes by the Constitutional Court.
Several BE leaders, including the national coordinator, Mariana Mortáguapresented a change to the proposal prepared by the Directorate itself, and approved at a national table, which intended to include in the statutes the duty of Protect the “good name” of the party.
Considering “undesirable any prior controversy The assessment by the Constitutional Court of the Left Bloc Statutes ”, in the new proposal it is established that BE militants have a duty to“ refrain from conduct that harms the public interest or violates fundamental rights provided for in the Constitution ”.
The norm that established the protection of the “good name of the party” was strongly contested at the beginning of the month by the internal oppositionwhich claimed to be at stake kind of “cork law”.
This thesis is contradicted by these leaders affecting the directionwhich include the parliamentary leader, Fabian FigueiredoDeputies Joana Mortágua, Marisa Matias and Isabel Pires, members of the hard core like Jorge Costa and Adriano Campos, or even the former coordinator and MEY, CATARINA MARTINS.
“A specific internal group promoted a media campaign by the way of a standard contained therein. Referred to the good name of the party As if it depended on public opinion the opening of an internal inquiry ”, reads on the grounds of the new proposal.
These blocks argue that the expression in question aimed to “protect the BE from illicit practices of adherents who cause social censorshipAnd that is “banal in political parties or even in recreational associations and sports clubs”.
“It was even declared that the norm would aim to open a “wave of expulsions”despite Nothing to allow this interpretation And during the last four years there was A single exclusion of a block adhering, ”they argue.
Although they consider that this criticism was “instrumental” and intended to achieve “purposes other than the legal stability conferred by the statutes”, the leaders propose to New Writing for the same Standard.
Among the subscribers of the proposal are still leaders as José SoeiroMoses Ferreira, José Gusmão, the founder of the party Luís Fazendaor the former parliamentary leader, Pedro Filipe Soares.
All proposals to change to BE Statutes, both the version approved by the national table and the remaining suggested changes, will be debated and voted at the XIV National Convention scheduled for 31 May and June 1st.
Blocks will have to change their statutes to respond to various warnings made by the Constitutional Court after the last convention, held in 2023.
