Brazilian president had a meeting with Luisa González to discuss South America’s juncture
The President (PT) met this Saturday (1st.mar.2025) with the candidate for the presidency of Ecuador (Citizen Revolution, Left). The meeting was on a trip to Uruguay, where the petista is to the inauguration ceremony of President Yamandú Orsi.
According to a note from the Planalto Palace, the Brazilian dealt with the political context in South America, and wished that the 2nd round of Ecuadorian elections, scheduled for April 13, runs peacefully and within normality.
“I received Luisa González, presidential candidate for Ecuador, for a conversation on Saturday morning at her request. We deal with the political context in South America. We express our agreement on the importance of strengthening democracy and social justice on the continent. I wish the elections in the second round in Ecuador to go peacefully and within normality, and that the will of the Ecuadorian people prevail ”wrote the president.
Lula was accompanied by Celso Amorim, head of the Special Advisory of the Presidency, (PT), future minister of SRI (Secretariat of Institutional Relations), Luciana Santos, Minister of Science and Technology, Alexandre Silveira, Minister of Mines and Energy, and Mauro Vieira, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The Ecuadorian candidate is opposed. She will have a direct confrontation in the 2nd round against the current president of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa (national democratic action, center-right). In the first round, on February 9, González 43.87% of the valid votes, while Noboa reached 44.34%.
González, 45, was born in Quito, capital of the country. He graduated in Law from the International University of Ecuador and holds a master’s degree in International Economics and Development from the Complutense University of Madrid.
