After the announcement of another significant investment, Lidl Portugal continues to reinforce its presence in our country. With a total of 15.5 million euros, the insignia advances with the opening of two new stores, located in Alcains (Castelo Branco) and Odivelas (Lisbon), reinforcing proximity to customers and betting on a modern and efficient buying experience.

Expansion and renewal of the store chain

Lidl’s growth strategy has been evident in recent years, with a strong commitment to the expansion and renewal of its network. According to, during the year 2024, the supermarket chain inaugurated 15 new stores and remodeled four spaces, now having more than 280 establishments in the national territory.

Improved purchasing experience

Investment in the modernization of stores aims to provide a service of higher quality and convenience to customers. The company has sought to adapt to the requirements of the current consumer, offering large, well-lit and sustainable spaces, also reinforcing its bet on affordable quality products.

New store in Castelo Branco

In the municipality of Castelo Branco, the new Alcains store represents an investment of 6.5 million euros and comes to streamline the local economy with the creation of 17 new jobs. This new space stands out for its contemporary design, which includes a glazed façade, allowing for greater natural light input.

In addition to architectural modernity, the Alcains store has been designed with environmental concerns. It has wide corridors, LED lighting and photovoltaic panels, ensuring greater energy efficiency. Customers who use electric vehicles will also have two fast charging stations.

Support to the Community

Lidl’s commitment to social responsibility remains present at this inauguration. The new store will support Caritas Diocesan Portalegre – Castelo Branco, as part of the Food Program, a partnership that has been maintained since 2018 and aims to contribute to the fight against food waste.

The new Odivela store with the largest selling area

In the municipality of Odivelas, the new store is located at Rua Heroes de Chaimite and was built from root at the site of the previous one. With an investment of 9 million euros, the space now has an extended sales area in over 400m², providing greater comfort and fluidity in the purchase experience.

The expansion of this store reflects Lidl’s bet to improve conditions for customers, providing a more intuitive and affordable layout. The insignia continues to consolidate its presence in the county, where it already has a total of six establishments.

New jobs

In terms of employability, the new Odivela store represents a reinforcement in the company’s staff. Currently, Lidl employs more than 160 employees in this municipality, and this specific unit has a team of 24 employees.

Support to the Lisbon Cerebral Palsy Association

Social responsibility also is present in this new store. Under the feedback program, Lidl will support the Lisbon Cerebral Palsy Association (APCL) – Dr. Center José de Azeredo Perdigão, continuing a collaboration started in 2019.
