Defenders of the General requested an additional 30 -day deadline for the presentation of the defense, but the judge decided to maintain the original period of 15 days, which ends on March 7
The minister, a member of the Federal Supreme Court (), rejected the request of the general’s lawyers to extend the defense period in the inquiry related to the attempted coup. The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) filed a complaint against Braga Netto, the former president (PL) and others involved, accusing them of trying to prevent the president’s inauguration in his third term. Braga Netto defenders requested an additional 30 -day deadline for the defense, but Moraes decided to maintain the original 15 -day deadline, which ends on March 7.
The general’s lawyer argued that the amount of material to be analyzed is extensive, totaling about 70 gigabytes and 1,400 files, besides having not had complete access to the alder of the former order of orders in his decision, Moraes stressed that Braga Netto’s defense already has broad access to the evidence collected during investigations. The minister emphasized that the amount of information available is sufficient for the defense to prepare properly within the stipulated period.
Braga Netto was arrested in December last year, also by order of Moraes, on charges of trying to obstruct the investigation into the attempted coup. The Federal Police found that he sought confidential information related to Mauro Cid’s denunciation. The general’s defense, in turn, denies the accusations of obstruction of investigations, stating that Braga Netto did not commit any irregularity.
