Russia’s Foreign Ministry assessed that the trip of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to Washington on Friday was a political and diplomatic failure and that he is obsessed with continuing to wage war.
Zelensky and US President Donald Trump conflicted at a White House meeting on Friday, taking ties between Kiev and the United States-his main military supporter-at their worst level since the beginning of the war.
Written statement
“The visit … Washington on February 28 is a complete political and diplomatic failure of the Kiev regime,” said Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Maria Zakharova in a written statement published on Saturday (1) on the ministry’s website.
She described Zelenskiy’s behavior in the White House as “scandalously rude” and said that the Ukrainian President was “a blatant cynic” whose main goal was to maintain power.
“For this, he destroyed the opposition, built a totalitarian state and ruthlessly sent millions of citizens to death,” said Zakharova.
