With the upcoming elections on social networks, false information is beginning to appear to influence elections.

On Friday, the Danish intelligence service issued a warning of foreign interference in the upcoming parliamentary elections in Greenland, which is the autonomous area of Denmark. TASR informs this based on the DPA report.

The increased interest in the Arctic among world powers in combination with discussions about international security and territorial independence of Greenland, according to Danish intelligence services, led to the spread of false information, especially through social networks.

According to intelligence services, the interest that US President Donald Trump and the spread of false information could use foreign powers. In the evaluation report, Russia, which is interested in sowing a split between NATO members and weakening Western countries, is mentioned. The secret service noted that the increased influence of the US in the territory where the US army has an important base is not in the interest of Russia.

Parliamentary elections in Greenland will be held on March 11. Trump has repeatedly shown the interest of the US to take control of the island, which is considered the largest island in the world, not excluding the use of military and economic power. The Greenland Government emphasized its aim to achieve greater independence from the Kingdom of Denmark without becoming part of the United States. Greenland manages its own home affairs, while defense and foreign affairs are managed from Copenhagen. The autonomous area is largely dependent on Denmark, especially in terms of economic support.
