Lula calls Trump and Zelensky chatting “grotesque scene”

President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) called “grotesque” the scene of the discussion starred between Presidents Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukraine, and Donald Trump, from the White House, on Friday (28/2).

“I, honestly, I am not a diplomat, but I think that, in diplomacy, since planet Earth was created, since diplomacy was created, there was no such grotesque scene, such disrespectful, as the one that happened in the White House Oval Hall,” the petista told journalists on Saturday (1/3). Lula traveled to Uruguay to accompany the inauguration of President -elect Yamandú Orsi.

Lula also stated that the Ukrainian President was “humiliated” by the US representative. “I think Zelensky was humiliated. I think in Trump’s head, Zelensky deserved it. I think the European Union was harmed by Zelensky’s speech, ”said the Brazilian president.

This Friday, Zelensky and Trump exchanged barbs in public during an audience at the White House Oval Hall. The two gathered to deal with the future of the Ukraine War, but ended up conflicting. The disagreement occurred at the end of the meeting, when the Ukrainian accused Russian President Vladimir Putin, of not having a real intention of ending the war.

Lula said he also discussed the issue with Germany President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, at a meeting on Saturday morning. “I told the president of Germany: ‘It is quite possible that Europe is responsible for reconstruction of Ukraine, it is quite possible that Europe is responsible for maintaining NATO and it is quite possible that Europe is held responsible for the disaster that is happening,’” said the petista.

“When, in fact, it is not a problem of any country. It is a problem of irresponsibility of people who do not want to discuss peace and prefer to discuss war. I hope that now everyone has learned a lesson. Only peace can bring to the world normality and we live with prosperity and with distribution of wealth to our people, ”he added.
