President of the European Commission says he will present a plan on rearmament in Europe

The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said on Sunday (2) that will present next week a plan for “rearmament of Europe” to reinforce the security of the bloc.

At the end of the Ukraine defense and security summit, held on Sunday in London, the head of the European Union (EU) executive branch said that it will reveal the plan to the heads of state and European government during an EU summit in Brussels.

“We all understand that, after a long period of sub -timing, it is now extremely important to increase defense investment for a prolonged period. It is for the safety of the European Union, ”he said.

Von der Leyen added that the plan could, for example, help develop advanced air shields.

As for the future of Ukraine, she stated that safety guarantees are extremely important for the country devastated by war. “We have to put Ukraine in a position of strength, so that it has the means to strengthen and protect itself,” he said. “It is to transform Ukraine into a steel porcupine that is indigestible for potential invaders.”

To journalists, at the end of the London summit, von der Leyen also said they want the US to see they are prepared to defend democracy.

This Sunday’s summit, organized by British Prime Minister Keir Stmermer, included more than 19 European leaders, but also included Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the Secretary-General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Mark Rutte.
