The City of Tijucas, a city located in Greater Florianópolis (SC), decreed an emergency situation in the municipal cemetery due to the lack of vacancies on site, last Wednesday (26).
According to the City Hall, the measure for the Municipal Cemetery of the Praça neighborhood was adopted in the face of the significant reduction of vacancies for new burials, which required actions to ensure the continuity of funeral services in the city.

According to the decree, the municipality also does not have immediate technical and operational capacity to solve the crisis on site, which makes it “indispensable the adoption of emergency measures to prevent the interruption of funeral services” in Tijucas (SC).
The decree highlights that the emergency situation on site has a period of 180 days and may be extended, if there is a technical report that “demonstrates the permanence of the conditions that justified the decree of the situation.”
The city also granted permission to manage the site without the need for bidding processes. However, the agency established obligations to be fulfilled by the permissionary company, being:
- Perform registration and re -registration of all the burials and those responsible for the graves;
- Notify families about the need for exhumation and removal of remains, observing current legislation;
- Manage the logistics and operation of the cemetery, ensuring efficiency, organization and transparency in the services provided;
- Maintain updated and computerized registration of all graves and occurrences, allowing public consultation;
- Ensure humanized and worthy service to mourning families, ensuring respect and sensitivity in the procedures adopted.
