There are plenty of older people in the homes of the elderly and often their owners do not know what to do with them. They once bought them, so they don’t just want to throw them away. It is actually good because they can have a much greater value than years ago.

Some objects with years are getting older and lose value, but others can literally tear records for decades. For example, do you remember the so -called lava lamps that were modern in the 1970s and in the world a decade earlier? After all, we can buy them today, although certainly not sales in the amounts as then. Especially the “sixties” can have a great value.

Rareer pieces are the center of the interest of collectors

If we talk about a high price, of course, we do not mean lamps bought in a regular shop as one of thousands of the same or similar. Already at that time, however, there were collectors who did not hesitate to pay extra for such a modern novelty. It may have been brought by someone known from abroad, for others it could be an interesting wedding gift. And these rare pieces now find their new places in rare collections. For example, there are lamps of the famous British brand Mathmos, which has already had more than sixty years of production of these decorative items. In 2023 she released a special collection of artistically processed pieces.

Thousands for one lamp?

Today, lava lamps today (albeit rarely) also appear at auctions, where it is possible to earn a little luck with a little luck for a recognized brand and a well -preserved piece of really nice money, especially abroad. Anyway, collectors are now willing to pay many thousands of crowns for quality pieces. So it pays to search the land, if there is no really historical piece there. Some could make someone happy and improve your budget.

They work together on them well -known faces

Lava lamps are interesting not only for their decorative to hypnotic form, but also the history they have gone through. For The New York Times, the CEO of the already mentioned company Mathmos Cressida Grager spoke. It reminded that the company produces not only “classic”, but also special editions and individual pieces in cooperation with world -renowned designers and celebrities. It is such products that can eventually gain their price up to hardly believable sums.

No lava but wax

Why is the lava lamp called this way when there is no lava? It is about the similarity of the movement of wax that is used in the lamp, with the flow of the lava inside the volcano. The lamp works so that the bulb, hidden at its bottom, gradually warms the wax located in a clear part in a viscous liquid. The heated wax then creates bubbles that break down and rise to the surface, where after cooling slowly fall back to the base so that the whole process can be repeated. In modern design products, Mathmos even uses a candle to further increase the effect.

The author is a British pilot

Not even cheap, but even the truly expensive lava lamps today would not be known today, if it were not for their inventor, a military pilot from World War II, Craven Walker. It was he who – inspired by the time of egg cooking, which he saw in one restaurant in Dorset – worked for so long to improve his dream until he became the author of one of the most successful decorative objects of the post -war world.
