Secret talks aimed at reopging the gas pipeline with American revenue participation, are being carried out between their delegations and, according to Bild and Financial Times reports.
As the German newspaper points out, talks between the US and Russia have been underway in Switzerland for weeks, to bring Russian gas to Europe again through Nord Stream 2. The pipeline ends in Melbourg – West Pomerania, but has suffered serious damage to the sea.
According to Bild, the US is claiming an intermediary role. “The two forces will sign a procurement contract with the US as a mediator who regulates the supply of Melbourg – Western Pomerania, against commission,” the newspaper writes.
The talks are held in Steinhausen, Switzerland, where the seats of Nord Stream 2 and Gazprom are located, including former US ambassador to Germany Richard Grenel and Matthias Varning, former Nord Stream CEO of Nord 2 Climate founded in Meclbourg – Western Pomerania with a Russian subsidy for the operation of the pipeline.
Bild, however, clarifies that the US government does not intend to formally engage in this phase, but US investors will participate. The landmark of 9 May 2025 is critical, as the Swiss court has given the Nord Stream 2 deadline to prevent bankruptcy, which entails the mandatory sale of pipelines.
“The Court said as a reasoning for the deadline that has given the complex geopolitical situation, Donald Trump’s swearing -in and the interest of many investors,” the newspaper notes, which however explains that Richard Grenel and Matthias were referring to them. So did the German government.
