The new “Anticera” rule, which penalizes goalkeepers with the marking of a timely corner of time, was criticized by former England’s goalkeeper Paul Robinson. In an interview with the BBC, the former player said the rule seems to have been made by those who never played ball.
“These rules are being made by people who have clearly never played soccer. Are they giving corner? Before, the goalkeepers had six seconds – then this rule was set aside, and the goalkeepers began to manage time and hold the ball. Now they are giving two seconds more, and the limit becomes eight, ”he complained.
IFAB argues that the new rule, which comes into effect at all levels of football from July 1, aims to accelerate the game. O, will already count on the new rule.
Another former English team goalkeeper Rob Green believes that the old six second rule should have been applied more rigorously.
“In the past, there was the six second rule, which was gradually abandoned – I don’t know why. I think this was already a sufficient form of dissuasion, ”he told the BBC too.
“It seems strange to reintroduce something like that, but if we can have more effective game time in the 90 minutes, I’m in favor. Statistically, there are only 4% chances of goal from a corner, so it’s not such a threat. But at the end of the match, the last thing the teammates want is to defend a set ball if they are winning, ”he said.
Understand the new rule
The change, announced last Saturday (1) by the International Football Association (IFAB), amends Law 12.2 from next season ,.
According to the new guideline, the referees will start counting the time as soon as the goalkeeper holds the ball and will make a visual count of eight seconds. If the player does not release the ball on time, a corner will be scheduled for the opposing team.
Until then, the punishment granted an indirect free kick, which could not be kicked directly to the goal. The new sanction, however, promises a greater impact on the game, encouraging a faster ball replacement and reducing the “wax” of goalkeepers.
