Janones says he will disclose data from involved in Paiva’s death

Deputy states that objective is, in addition to exposing the military, to pressure the court to accelerate the trial on the case

The federal deputy (Avante-MG) on Monday (2.mar.2025) that will disclose “Still this week” The address and personal data of the military involved in the death of former Deputy Rubens Paiva (1929-1971) during the military dictatorship in Brazil.

According to Janones, the goal is, besides exposing the “Assassins”press the court to accelerate the trial on the case – which is in the Supreme Court (STF).

In all, 5 military personnel were denounced by the MPF (Federal Prosecutor) for qualified homicide, corpse concealment, procedural fraud and armed gang in the Paiva case. Currently, only 2 are alive: José Antônio Nogueira Bilham and Jacy OchSendorf and Souza.

Rubens Paiva has been recognized as missing since 1996, after a court battle led by his wife, Eunice Paiva.

On January 24, 2025, the death certificate of the former deputy was corrected, now recognizing that he was victim of violent death, caused by state agents during the military dictatorship.

The new certificate specifies that the cause of death was violent and attributed to the state as part of the persecution of political dissidents. The amendment also includes the CEMDP (Special Commission on Dead and Missing Politicals) as a death attestor.

Until then, his death had not been officially considered as violent.
