A farmer from the village of Bartosze, from the Warmia-Mazury voivodship, in northern Poland, discovered a 2500-year-old bronze necklace.
The necklace is made of a single bronze bar with circular cross section. It is open at one end, like a bracelet, and is decorated throughout the length with a model of double grooves in circles throughout the circumference.
The necklace was discovered by the son of the farmer in January this year, while improving the access of animals to water on the pasture. It consisted of two parts, but the rupture was clean, and together they formed an entire necklace. Subsequently, the owner of the land handed over to the local section of the Provincial Directorate for the protection of monuments in ELK.
Experts from the Institute of Archeology of the University Nicolaus Copernicus in Toruț determined that the artifact dates from the Hallstatt Culture period C. In the area where it was discovered, during this period the transition from the Lusacese culture to the emergence of the Baltic Groups of the type of turns was held, each of them could wear this colier.
“In our region there have been no necklaces from this era for a long time. I found a few topori and a few more recent, but nothing older, ”said Magdalena Koźicka, an archeology specialist in the Elk section of the Voivodal Directorate for Archeology and Natural Resources.
The researchers of the Institute will now carry out an analysis of the necklace to determine the metal composition. After the analysis is completed, the object will be sent to the Local Museum, located near the place of discovery, to be exposed to the public.
