Estoril coach Ian Cathro
Estoril’s coach Ian Cathro amazed the press room at the end of the game against Sporting by adopting a slightly more relaxed (in good Portuguese) language than usual. You really need to have ‘big balls’!
While we still wait for the announcement of coach of February, the holder of this prize continues to be Ian Cathro do Estoril.
The Scottish coach is a strong candidate to revalidate the prize, since in February, as in January, He didn’t miss a game again.
Canarinhos have risen from performance and are already in 8th place in the championship. Until this Monday, in seven games played this year, Estoril won six and tied one (2-2, against Nacional). The last time they had lost it was on December 23, against Benfica (3-0). This defeat allowed the eagles to move to the 1st place.
Two and a half months later, Estoril lost again. This time, in front of Sporting (3-1). Interestingly, this defeat now allows the lions to take over the 1st placein isolation, but to the condition (since Benfica has less one game; and, if they win, equals Sporting).
Despite the defeat, Estoril may boast of having made a good exhibition against the current champion. And who can better do it than your coach?
At the end of the game at the press conference, Ian Cathro praised his team for providing an excellent soccer show in Alvalade.
The Scottish coach said the team was growing and, unknowingly that he was bad, pointed out the special ingredient to wear the Estoril jersey.
“Estoril is a growing team and doing things differently without fear. And that’s why you like to see the game better. And to play in this Estoril team, You have to have c*lhões… you need to have ‘big balls’… And we have! ”He said.
Later, realizing some laughs and reactions of amazement in the conference room, Cathro questioned if I couldn’t have said that and apologized: “I apologize, I can’t say ‘C#Lhões’?”
“Now it’s already, we have,” the journalists answered, between laughs. “Now it’s said… But is it bad? I apologize, it is better to start saying them in English“Said the trainer in a relaxed tone.
Ian Cathro starred in a moment of good disposition in the Alvalade press room. 😅

Ian Cathro, Scottish, Born in Dundeebut with the very sharp Portuguese. As? It would be astonishing, if the 38 -year -old coach had not arrived in Portugal in 2012 (at the time, at 26), to be Assistant of Nuno Espírito SantoNo Rio Ave.
Since then, Cathro has accompanied the Luso coach around the world (with an interruption between 2015 and 2018) and, of course, had opportunity and time to learn the good Portuguese.
The young coach returned at the beginning of this time to Portugal, to take over the Estoril ‘Solo’ team and has done a good job – so good that Ian Cathro is part of the restricted lot of four league coaches that started at the time and have not yet been ‘‘.
The other coaches who have been in teams since the beginning of the time are Basque Matos (Santa Clara), João Pereira (PIA house) e Tiago Margarido (National).
