Marches will be held in several cities on Friday (7.mar) to defend research funding in the United States
Scientists in the United States summoned national protests to Friday (7.mar.2025) against government measures (Republican Party) that affect scientific research. The movement criticizes the cuts in financing and presses for the resumption of investments.
The protests are scheduled for Washington, DC, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, Seattle, Nashville, Austin and other cities. According to the organizers, the goal is “Defending science as a public good and a pillar of social, political and economic progress”.
Read the objectives of the march against Trump:
- restitution of federal funding for research: Restore the financing of scientific research in all areas at 2024 and ensure a 20% increase in the next 3 years;
- Refostering federal servants unjustly dismissed: readmit all scientists and administrators illegally dismissed from federal agencies;
- end of government censorship: prohibit any form of political censorship in scientific research, including restrictions on eligible topics for federal financing;
- restoration of public access to scientific information: re -establish all data, reports and scientific resources on federal sites to status prior to January 31, 2025;
- protection for minorized group scientists: Strengthen anti -discriminatory policies to ensure equitable participation and impact on science.
Since his return to the White House, Trump has adopted measures that concern the scientific community. These include layoffs in government research agencies, freezing funds for scientific projects and proposals that can reduce investments in the area.
