The bonus, which can reach R $ 1,500, was created by the City Hall in August 2022.

The IDB survey analyzed the period before and after the implementation of the bonus to measure the number of transfer requests from the units that had the gratification. According to the study, after the creation of the additional, teachers began to give preferences to the most distant and vulnerable schools, with an average increase of five teachers per school.

Currently, there are 530 schools covered by the bonus, which can represent an increase of 5% to 25% of the salary of teachers who work in these units with more rotation.

“Research results show that financial incentives are effective in retaining teachers in vulnerable areas,” says Gregory Elacqua, a IDB education expert and one of the study’s authors.
