This visit of the royal couple of the Netherlands to the, will be unforgettable to both the kings and the Cypriots. Not because King William-Alexander and her Queen Maxima is the first time they visit Cyprus, but it was an unusual visit.
First of all, the king came to Cyprus, piloting (as a co -pilot) an KLM aircraft. He even revealed that he had been a co -pilot for KLM flights for 20 years, with Fokker 70 aircraft and prior to a carrier. 2017 had said that he was going to be trained in Boeing 737.
The second fact that the impression was that the Dutch royal couple asked to see the famous potatoes of Cyprus closely. They went with limousines to the fields of Xylophagus and toured the potato.
But why did they want to know everything about the Cypriot potato? Because Cypriot farmers prefer the Dutch potato seed. Cypriot farmers received many questions mainly from the queen about crops and potatoes.
On the agenda of discussions in Nicosia, bilateral cooperation issues were found such as economy-investment, defense, shipping, training-offering students, (about 700-800 Cypriot students go to study in the Netherlands each year), issues of agricultural economy, archeology. Also focused on the discussions were regional developments in Ukraine and the Middle East, migration, Cyprus and Euro -Turkish.
The King of the Netherlands praised the role of Cyprus in the region of the Middle East and thanked the invitation to visit Cyprus, which he said, is at a very important point between the Middle East and North Africa and understands the issues concerning the region and its neighbors.
The President of Cyprus thanked the Netherlands’ positions for the Cyprus issue and said that we are going to Geneva in order to have the conditions for the reopening of the talks. He also said that the dialogue raised issues related to the Ukrainian, the Middle East and the migration were raised.
