French Defense Minister announces measure while Trump pressures Zelensky to negotiate with Moscow
France is offering military intelligence to Ukraine, Defense Minister Sebastien Leconnu said on Thursday (6.mar.2025), a day after Washington suspending information sharing with Kiev. The French measure seeks to compensate for the lack of American assistance, vital for Ukraine tracking Russian troop movements and selecting targets on the battlefield.
“We have intelligence resources that we use to help Ukrainians“Leconnu told Radio France Inter. “Our intelligence is sovereign.”
American sharing “It’s been suspended since yesterday afternoon”added the minister. “For our British friends, who are in an intelligence community with the United States, it’s more complicated.”
Trump government officials indicated that the suspension may be brief, depending on the result of conversations between Washington and Kiev.
In addition to intelligence, Leconnu revealed that the remittances of help to Ukraine from Poland were also suspended, but stressed that “Ukrainians have learned to fight in this war three years ago and know how to stock up.”
French President Emmanuel Macron called for the acceleration of French aid packages and summoned European leaders for a new Kiev meeting next week. In a recent speech, Macron warned of the “Russian threat” to Europe and announced his intention to open a debate about the protection of the continent with the French nuclear umbrella.
Leconnu stressed that France’s nuclear weapons stock, designed to be independent of Washington and Moscow, is sufficient for this function.
