Rapper aims at compensation for damage to reputation; Case also involves Sean “Diddy” Combs
Shawn Carter, known as Jay-Z, sued a woman-who was not named-for accusing him of rape in December 2024. She claimed that she was drugged and raped in 2000 by rapper and producer Sean “Diddy” Combs. However, he withdrew his accusations in February 2025. The information was released by this Wednesday (5.mar.2025).
The woman claimed to have been invited to a party after MTV’s Video Music Awards organized by Diddy, where she would have been a victim of the artists. She said to the newspaper The Guardian have removed the complaint for the fear of being publicly identified and the target of attacks.
“I would have to be publicly named and subjected to public attacks”he explained, highlighting the pressure and fear faced by accusers in cases of high visibility.
Jay-Z also directed his lawsuit against her lawyers, Tony Buzbee and David Fortney, accusing them of orchestrating the case. Buzbee, who represents more than 100 people in cases against Diddy, defends the legitimacy of his client’s accusations despite retraction.
The singer’s defense stated that the alleged victim admitted that the story was false. Jay-Z said he suffered losses of more than $ 20 million due to the negative impact of the accusation on his reputation.
