The Central Student Directory, which represents students from Mackenzie Presbyterian University, sent a letter to Rector Marco Tullio de Castro Vasconcelos suggesting the installation of busts of the former deputy killed by the dictatorship and his wife, both formed by the institution.
The letter, last Monday (3), is signed in conjunction with the Horácio Lane Academic Center, which represents students from the University School of Engineering, and João Mendes Júnior, from the Faculty of Law.
In the document, the students claim that the nominations of the film “” Oscar – – rekindled among students “admiration and recognition by the legacy of Rubens and Eunice Paiva.”
The revoked deputy was a student of civil engineering and president of the Horacio Lane Academic Center in 1954. Eunice has graduated in letters and law at the university.
“Rubens and Eunice represent for all we, examples of social commitment and defense of democratic values, especially in dark periods of Brazilian history,” they write.
In addition to busts, students suggest the possibility of granting scholarships or study aids for descendants (such as grandchildren and great -grandchildren) of the honorees.
“In the midst of the current climate of celebration by the international award of the film inspired by the story of Rubens and Eunice Paiva, we reinforce the relevance of the Presbyterian University Mackenzie to manifest clearly and bluntly as to its past positions, especially during the military regime, reiterating its commitment to the defense of the Democratic Rule of Law and Human Rights, being a step in the consolidation of institutional recognition to the memory of the honorees,” emphasize.
The excerpt refers to, when confrontation between groups of student Mackenzie University, right, and the USP Faculty of Philosophy of the left, left one dead, three bullet injured and at least 30 prisoners.
Sought, Mackenzie replied that “the theme is being examined by the university.”
