Those who are passing through the town of Vila Real de Santo António, in the Algarve, have certainly noticed that there is possible to see Spain, as the Algarve city is located right at the foot of the border. However, if you are on Ponta da Areia beach facing the sea and look to your left, you will come across what the Spanish give the name of “Isla”, although it is not well of an island.
It is that despite being called Isla Canela, this small town that is within the municipality of Ayamonte is not an island, since it is not surrounded by water in all of its extension. You can access it by car and once in Isla Canela, will have about seven kilometers of beaches to enjoy the sun and sea at a different place.
To enter Isla Canela with a car from the Algarve, it can both cross the border through the Guadiana International Bridge, and the ferry route, which crosses the Guadiana. If you are without a car and want to make your way on foot, be aware that you can also use this same ferry that makes several daily trips between Vila Real de Santo António and Ayamonte.

It should be noted that Isla Canela is a beach zone and, like Algarve, is much sought after especially during the summer months, because the beaches are her former libris.
