‘The priority of the Minister of Finance is not always the priority of Congress,’ said the parliamentarian, who chairs the Constitution and Justice Commission
The President of the Senate Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ), Otto Alencar (PSD-BA), highlighted the independence of the National Congress in relation to the priorities agenda of Finance Minister Fernando Haddad. In a statement that caught the eye, Alencar stated that the CCJ will not automatically follow the guidelines proposed by the executive. This statement was made in response to questions about the reduction of public servants supersalaries, one of the government’s 25 priority measures to the mayor, Hugo Motta (PP-PB), and Senate, David Alcolumbre (Union-AP). “Haddad’s priority is not always the priority of Congress. There is something that is not a priority for government and is a priority for us. The CCJ will not follow the government agenda without careful analysis of the implications of each measure, ”said Alencar
In addition to the issue of super salaries, Alencar addressed other crucial topics of the economic agenda, such as the regulation of tax reform and the exemption of income tax for those who earn up to $ 5,000 monthly. He expressed optimism about the advancement of these guidelines in Congress, suggesting that they should not face major obstacles. The statements were made during an interview with the newspaper “O Globo”, where Alencar, which is part of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s support base, also shared his opinions on the penalties applied to the acts of January 8, considering them severe and suggesting an individualized review.
