A long or annual flower meadow not only captivates with a riot of colors, but also provides food and shelter for bees and other pollinators. If you want to enjoy her beauty throughout the season, it is worth choosing a variety of plant species. In addition to standard mixtures of grass, poppies and cornflowers, we can also reach for the seeds of rapidly growing plants. One -year flowers that diversify the space and look beautiful are: black cumin, Driakiew, Wonna, Wyka, Facelia, marigold, California Maczek and Klars. These seeds quickly germinate, and the flowers will enjoy our eyes in the first summer season. If we want them to bloom in the next year, we cut the plants only after the seeds are released. In this way, they will spread in the meadow and grow in the next season. We can also enrich the meadow with perennials. It works well: durable lupine, mullein, garden oyster, slopes and brawls. The plants will bloom only in the next season and will grow back every year, even without seeds. A large variety of flowers will allow you to enjoy colors and smell throughout the season. The advantage of the flower meadow is that it grows great on almost every ground. The poorer the soil, the better. Earth rich in organic ingredients promotes the development of more expansive plant species. The sunny position will be the best.
Kwietna meadow – sowing, mowing and care rules
The area for the flower meadow must be prepared well. Remove the vegetation that grew on it earlier. Seeds of most flower and grass species can be sown in early spring or late autumn (when the first frosts do not allow plants to grow before winter). Depending on the weather, the best is the end of March and the beginning of April. July and August due to high temperatures and negligible rainfall will not be suitable. Seeds do not germinate. If we want the flower meadow to be thick, we need about 1.5 g of flower seeds and 2 g grass seeds per square meter. If we sow only flowers, we need 5 g of seeds. After sowing, the seeds only need to be kneaded, you do not have to cover them with soil. It is worth remembering that due to the temperature, soil requirements, as well as the length of the rest period, the growth of individual plant species may be uneven. The flower meadow is not very demanding and absorbing for the gardener. The only care treatment is mowing. Most often they are carried out in early summer and autumn, when the plants already manage to fade and tie and sow seeds. Importantly, we leave the cut plants in the meadow for about 2 weeks, only later we collect a swath. Every few years, it is also worth completing the meadow with plants, which over time grow back less in large numbers.
