A freight train transporting tanks with a toxic benzene, which began to burn after last week’s accident near Hustopeč nad Bečvou, exceeded the speed of about 55 km/h. This was announced on the website on Thursday by the Rail Inspection, which is finding out the causes of the accident, the TASR newsletter informs.
The inspectors said they had completed the analysis of the freight train speedometer on Thursday. According to them, the entrance trailer at the railway station instructed the driver to enter the station at a speed of at most 40 km/h. “However, the train missed this launch at 95.2 km/h, entered the switches at 94.8 km/hav derailed them.“the inspection found.
At the same time, she pointed out that her role is only to investigate the causes and circumstances of the accident, the responsibility for the crime is not concerned. “The investigation is at the beginning and in no way is to find the guilt of the driver, as the technical error of the locomotive or kit is not yet excluded.
Last week on Friday (February 28) near the village Hustopeča nad Bečva in the Olomouc region there was a freight train accident. Of the 17 tanks that transported toxic benzene, 15 derailed them and gradually began to burn. No one was injured in an accident. The damage was preliminarily estimated at 225 million crowns (nearly nine million euros), of which 75 million for infrastructure, 50 million on the train and 100 million on the environment.
The Czech Environmental Inspectorate (ČIŽP) announced on Wednesday that the toxic benzene, which had escaped in the accident, affected groundwater. According to experts, remediation of the territory may last for two years.
