The National Union of Professional Firefighters (SNBP) accused the Faro Chamber of “abandoning” local Sappers Firefighters, who have been without hot water in the barracks for four months, threatening to advance to a strike to resolve the situation.
“[O] SNBP does not want to believe it will be forced to move on with a strike so that they will at least solve the hot water issue, ”says the union in a statement.
According to workers’ representatives, Faro Sapadors Firefighters continue to face an “unsustainable and unacceptable” situation, with the unit’s barracks without hot water since December.
“This situation, which has already been publicly denounced by SNBP, remains without resolution despite numerous attempts to find a definitive solution,” laments the workers’ defense organization.
According to the union, a proposal for a provisional solution, suggested by two elements of the Faro Firefighters Company, which consisted of the installation of an electrical cable in the internal corridor to solve the problem, “was promptly rejected by the 2nd commander, which insists that the problem resolution should be done exclusively by specialized technicians.”
On the other hand, an alternative solution provided by the Faro Chamber – the Balneario do Campo Municipal of Penha – “generates even more embarrassment”, as it is located more than one kilometer of the barracks and is used by other entities, they add.
“It is inadmissible that, in the 21st century, Faro Sapadors Firefighters, which guarantee the safety and well-being of the population, have to move to a public sports resort, while the minimum resources are not assured in their facilities,” says the representatives of the Sapadores.
The union considers that “the situation is even more serious”, due to the lack of adequate uniforms and the health conditions of professionals, who are exposed to risk, namely chemical, biological, radiological, among others.
“The working conditions of Faro Sapadors Firefighters are being constantly undervalued, endangering not only their well-being and safety, but also the quality of the service provided to the population, insists SNBP.
The union regrets that, although it has already filed a complaint with the authority for working conditions () and having denounced the situation in various meetings with the municipality, “the solutions continue to postpone and the promises are not fulfilled.”
“In the face of continuous neglect and lack of an answer, we are evaluating the possibility of moving on with a strike in Faro,” reiterates the union, adding that he cannot accept that working and safety conditions are posed for reasons that are the “total responsibility” of the Faro Authority.
“Faro Sapadores Firefighters deserve more respect, more dignity and, above all, minimal conditions to perform their duties,” they add.
