The decision in this matter could be made in April and would allow rapid deportation of Ukrainians from the US.
White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt refused to report the Reuters agency, referring to the informed sources on Thursday that US President Donald Trump’s administration plans to cancel the temporary legal status of about 240,000 Ukrainian refugees. Reuters in his report claims that the decision in this matter could be made in April and would allow for rapid deportation of Ukrainians from the US, writes TASR.
Leavitt has identified this Reuters report as misinformation “on anonymous sources that do not know what they are talking about”. She added that in fact “no decision has been taken for now.”
Trump’s administration plans to remove legal status
The Reuters report, referring to its four sources, states that this initiative is part of the trump administration’s efforts to remove the legal status of more than 1.8 million migrants who have been allowed to join the United States within temporary humanitarian programs launched under President Joe Biden’s reign.
Reuters notes that in addition to 240,000 Ukrainians, the announced plan can affect 530,000 migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela, as well as 70,000 Afghans who fled to the US before the Fundamentalist Taliban movement.
Trump in the Executive Regulation issued on 20 January asked the Ministry for internal security to terminate all such programs. According to the internal e-mail available to Reuters, the migrants who were taken from the status could be launched by an accelerated deportation procedure.
