Slovakia could be preserved on Thursday (6. March) as Hungary, and in some positions, it should be of a neutral attitude. This was stated on Friday by the head of the CIS and Vice -Chairman of the National Council (NR) of the Slovak Republic Andrej Danko. However, he understands Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD), he thinks that negotiations were not easy. He doesn’t want to go into conflict with him and stands behind him. Danko appreciated that Fico fought to restore gas supply and that he was defending the interests of the Slovak Republic. He also declared that The CIS would leave the government if it was decided to miss Slovak soldiers to Ukraine.
“I expected Slovakia to behave as Hungary,” Danko said at a press conference. He considers it very important that Slovakia stands side by side next to the Hungarians in these situations. Danko does not want to attack Smer-SD, but Fica will ask if there would be a better position for Slovakia if we coordinated things with the Hungarians.
Fico has the confidence of the CIS. “I will have next week of negotiations, I will try to understand his position. I want to appreciate that Robert Fico fought to restore gas supplies. I want to appreciate that Robert Fico, whether on the domestic or foreign scene, defends the interests of proud Slovakia, “he said of the summit. He added that It is important for the CIS that this government “lives” to have 79 deputies. He has a full understanding of the attitude of Fico at the summit, because if he was angry with European leaders, it would have difficult in negotiations on Eurofunds. He also declared that CIS is against a larger armament to Ukraine.
All 27 EU leaders agreed at the Brussels Summit on the final text to strengthen the block defense. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán vetoed conclusions concerning the provision of military aid to Ukraine. The proposal of a statement supported by the remaining 26 EU countries, including Slovakia, confirms the existing EU’s attitude to war in Ukraine, emphasizes the need for a fair and permanent peace and a block’s obligation to continue helping Kiev in all forms, including military support.
