On the E42 motorway in the Belgian city of La Louvière south of Brussels, the bridge crashed on Thursday during construction. According to rescue services, at least one person died and three others are injured, TASR writes based on the reports of DPA and The Brussels Times.
According to the mayor of La Louvière, the incident occurred on Thursday around 14:00 CET. The bridge over the canal has been under construction since February 2024. At the time of the disaster, there were 12 people on the construction site, four injured rescuers were taken to the hospital. One of them was in a critical condition and died as a result of the injury. The remaining eight people escaped without injury.
The Belgian authorities preventively closed the Belgian Belgian Bridge, “To enable rescue services to the area and to work in complete safety,” the company explained to the construction of SOFICO motorways.
