Brazilian João Fonseca defeated British Jacob Fearnley on Thursday (6) in an exciting debut at Indian Wells Masters 1000 in the United States.

Fonseca, number 80 of the ATP ranking, defeated Fearnley (81 °) 6/2, 1/6 and 6/3 in the first participation of his career in the prestigious Californian tournament.

The Brazilian, who was losing 1-3 on the third set, will face another Briton in the second round, Jack Draper, 13th key and semifinalist head of the last US Open. The duel has no confirmed date yet.

At 18, Fonseca became one of the youngest champions in history last month with her triumph at Buenos Aires Open 250.

After this success, Indian Wells organizers not only gave him one of his invitations, but also entertained him on Thursday opening the doors of the central court to start the second day of the event.

Fonseca responded with a solid performance in difficult conditions due to the strong wind from the California desert, with raja of up to 25 km/h.

It was João Fonseca’s second victory over Jacob Fearnley this year. In January, he had already won the British rival by 2 sets at 0 at Challenger of Camberra, Australia.

The match was also John’s first after the defeat in the Open River debut on February 18. At the time, the Brazilian was defeated by the Frenchman Alexandre Müller by 2 sets to 0, two days after winning the ATP 250 of Buenos Aires.
