Russia warns Macron that his warmaking rhetoric will lead to a “great tragedy”
The president of the Duma, the Chamber of Deputies of Russia, Viacheslav Volodin, has warned this Friday to the French president, Emmanuel Macron, that his warmongering rhetoric, which includes nuclear deterrence, will only lead to a “great tragedy.”
“Macron’s statement about the need to open a debate on the use of nuclear weapons and the continuation of the war will lead to a great tragedy,” Volodin writes on his Telegram channel.
Volodin answered the question about whether that is what the French and other European countries need: “Of course not.”
“The European Union is going through a period of serious turbulence, divisions and elections. In short time he will say if Europe is able to make the right decision by guiding the interests of the people, ”he said.
Russian Foreign Minister Serguéi Lavrov said Thursday that France’s plans – the only EU country with nuclear weapons – to extend his nuclear umbrella to his European allies involve “a threat to Russia” and also rejected the European Peace Plan for Ukraine for Ukraine outlined this Wednesday by Macron.
